The inventors of the modern shiplift. Explore who Pearlson is and the products they design, manufacture, and support worldwide — with Global ShipYard Solution serving as their official agent in Egypt.
In 1957, Raymond Pearlson invented, patented, and built the world's first shiplift. In the nearly seven decades since, that invention has transformed shipyards worldwide. Today, Pearlson Shiplift Corporation continues that legacy — the family-led team that defined the standard and still builds the largest shiplifts in the world.
Global ShipYard Solution is honored to serve as Pearlson Shiplift Corporation's official agent and local representative in Egypt. While Pearlson designs, manufactures, and supports their systems worldwide, we act on their behalf in the local market — handling inquiries, quotations, procurement, coordination, and on-the-ground support.
A Pearlson Shiplift and Transfer System improves shipyard efficiency and reduces operating expenses — proven in service since 1957. Systems are designed and built by Pearlson; we provide official agency support.
The vessel is maneuvered into position and floated over the submerged shiplift platform, guided by the shipyard's dockmaster team.
Synchronous motor-brake assemblies activate wire rope hoists simultaneously, lifting the vessel evenly out of the water. All motors work in unison regardless of load distribution.
The vessel is transferred via rail-based carriages, SPMT, or hydraulic systems to a designated work berth — enabling multiple vessels to be serviced simultaneously.
With the vessel drydocked at the work berth, the shipyard performs all required maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upgrades with full access to the hull.
After completion, the vessel is transferred back to the shiplift platform and safely launched back into the water, ready for service.
Designed, manufactured, and delivered by Pearlson Shiplift Corporation — the only company in the world devoted exclusively to shiplift and transfer systems. We manage procurement, coordination, and local support in Egypt.
Pearlson's shiplift systems — designed, manufactured, and certified by Lloyd's Register. The same technology trusted by BAE Systems, Austal USA, MB92, and navies worldwide. We provide local agency support in Egypt.
From brand-new construction to modernizing existing drydocking infrastructure, Pearlson's team delivers state-of-the-art shiplift systems worldwide. As Pearlson's agent in Egypt, we manage new-build projects and complete upgrades end-to-end.
Pearlson's precision ship transfer solutions, designed for each shipyard's unique layout. We facilitate supply and technical coordination through our agency.
Pearlson's field engineering team provides on-site support worldwide. We coordinate and facilitate these services for clients in Egypt.
Pearlson invented the shiplift and still manufactures its core components in the USA — the hoist machinery, synchronous motor-brake assemblies and controls built to the original 1957 drawings. No re-labeled generic equipment. As Pearlson's agent, we handle procurement and supply coordination for the Egyptian market.
This page answers the question we hear most — why the world's most demanding shipyards choose Pearlson, the company that invented the technology — explored in full depth below.
Installation base and country coverage as published by Pearlson Shiplift Corporation.
A Naval Architect and Marine Engineer, Raymond Pearlson conceived the modern shiplift in the 1950s, built the first working system in 1957, and founded Pearlson Engineering Company in 1958 to develop it worldwide. For the next 20 years he introduced the invention to shipyards across the globe. In 2002 he received the Elmer A. Sperry Award, presented jointly by ASME, IEEE, IME and SNAME, for a distinguished engineering contribution that advanced the art of transportation.
Founded in 1958 by Raymond Pearlson, the company has devoted itself to this one technology ever since. Today's team works from the original 1957 drawings — knowledge passed directly through the company, not diluted across a conglomerate.
Pearlson built three of the world's largest shiplifts — including the largest in the Americas, a 25,000-ton system for BAE Systems in Jacksonville, plus an 18,000-ton system for Austal USA and Australia's Southern-Hemisphere record for ASC.
BAE Systems, Austal USA, the US Navy and coast guards worldwide, MB92 mega-yacht refits, and the Korean Coast Guard all run on Pearlson. References are published and auditable → — built in the USA to Lloyd's Register–certified design and quality systems, with genuine OEM spare parts supported for the life of the system.
The company that invented the shiplift in 1957 has since built three of the world's largest — including the largest in the Americas — and answers every installation with accumulated engineering unmatched in this field.

25,000-ton End-Off Transfer — North America's most demanding repair workload converges on this platform: inland ship repair at industrial scale, docked daily.
18,000-ton — the largest and widest shiplift on the Gulf Coast, purpose-built for defense and government vessel series work.
Largest shiplift in the Southern Hemisphere — naval sustainment and commercial docking capacity setting the regional benchmark.
5,000-ton, the largest yacht-dedicated shiplift in the world — the Mediterranean refit corridor's flagship installation, commissioned and operational with first haul-outs in 2026 and capacity for yachts up to 125 m LOA.
Contracts evidence and dockmaster contacts are available under NDA. Full video case studies are planned through 2026. See the evidence trail or audit us against the supplier checklist.
Request the Reference PackTwelve new systems — a backlog of more than $200M — are in construction or commissioning today, and the first of them is already lifting yachts in the Mediterranean.
Pearlson's 5,000-ton shiplift for VMG Astilleros de Sagunto, Valencia, is commissioned and operational — a 102 m x 22 m continuous platform with 28 synchronized hoists, built for yachts up to 125 m LOA. Vessels transfer by SPMT to 76,800 m² of hardstanding. First haul-outs took place in 2026.
Commissioned 2026 · Operational
BAE Systems' $200M Jacksonville complex is built on Pearlson's 25,000-ton shiplift — the largest ever constructed — with capacity for up to six vessels in the yard simultaneously. Commissioned in 2025, it is the reference case for what a Pearlson system delivers at maximum scale.
Commissioned 2025 · Record scaleAustal USA's Mobile, Alabama yard is anchored on Pearlson's 18,000-ton system — 450 ft x 125 ft, the largest on the Gulf Coast and the widest in the Americas. It serves the Constellation-class frigate, TAGOS-25, and US Coast Guard Heritage-class programs, and is in final construction.
In final constructionAt Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Wisconsin, Pearlson's ~10,000-ton shiplift — roughly 500 ft x 82 ft — is engineered as a newbuild launch system for Constellation-class frigates and MMSC vessels, not a repair dock. The system is operational and in its final stages.
In final stages · Newbuild launchThese systems are built with the same engineering available to an Egyptian yard — designed, manufactured, and certified by Pearlson, delivered through Global ShipYard Solution as their official agent. The record is documented; your feasibility study can begin from fact, not promise.
